Are lanes a thing in this picture? I’m not sure lanes are a thing.

In Paris, there may be lanes, but they are only a polite suggestion. In practice, they are purely optional. I’ve driven there, and it’s a terrifying amount of fun.

Whereas I’ve noticed that in England, lanes are fairly concise, but whenever it’s a two-lane road they have to be ignored when one elbows fractionally into the *opposite lane* at blitzing speed because there is no room on the shoulder and the lanes are stupidly narrow.
I was grossly uncomfortable in parts of London driving a
Corsa.
Got to say I prefer pretty much anywhere in the US of A to that.
